I read a lot of blogs, there is no denying it. I actually get most of the updates on Facebook, since I am on there more than I am on Bloglovin / reading other blogs. By using Facebook, I can quickly enter giveaways that so many blogs have – and if it’s not too much of pain, I enter them!

I entered a giveaway last week for a $50 Minted.com giveaway – and I won! I have won a few giveaways in the past, but it’s been a few years, so I was thrilled to get that email :)

Now I’m just trying to decide what to spend it on. I love everything on the site, and $50 will definitely help, but that stuff isn’t cheap! Oh well, you get what you pay for, right?

DIY Hair Ties and a Giveaway!

So, this started about 6 weeks ago when Whitney and I went to get our hair cut (yeah, we usually get haircuts together, so what?) and she told me about the awesome hair ties / headbands that the hairdresser sold on the side. Yeah, I’m a sucker, because we bought some.

Why?

To figure out how to copy them, of course!

I was on my phone googling “how to make hair ties” as soon as I sat down in the car. (For all you texting/driving freaks, SHE was driving, so calm down) We went straight to Joann’s to find some of the elastic so we could make our own. Yeah, well, we had to search for it, and they only had 3-4 colors of it and they were in multipacks. Oh yes, they were also expensive, all things considered. I mean, come on, it’s only elastic. Put it in some cutesy special packaging and mark it up 500%! Duh!

I had to order it online. I will admit, I was a tad bit upset about this because I was motivated to make them right then and I had to tap the brakes. The tutorial I used (if you could even call it that, because if we’re keeping it real, all you’re really doing is cutting elastic to size and tying a knot in it) can be found here, but since then I found another blog that I really love – that will be a whole ‘nother post in itself.

Late Night Crafting - RCHOTX

So here is the RCHOTX tutorial on how to tie a knot in a piece of elastic. Enjoy!

Materials:

Foldover elastic (I used 1/2″, the tutorials say to use 5/8″ – next time I will order 5/8″ but this works just fine and I have thick hair)

Ruler

Scissors

Fingers and thumbs

Lighter

1. Cut a piece of elastic approximately 8 1/2″ long. (I ordered mine from Sunshine Shoppe, but it is very widely available on Etsy as well.)

2. Fold it in half, pretty side facing out. (The elastic I ordered had a matte side and a shiny side – I like shiny, so I had the shiny side facing out. If there is a pattern on it, you obviously want that side facing out)

3. Tie it in a knot, leaving a little bit on the end. Cut the end at an angle. Why? ‘Cause I said to. And it looks better.

4. Light it on fire. (No, I’m serious. Get a lighter and burn the ends of the ribbon. It will keep it from fraying. No one wants to be seen with a frayed hair tie. Come on now!) Also, I had to buy lighters, and I’m 99.9% sure that the Target Lady was judging me for it. Crafters need lighters too!

I went a little crazy with the foldover elastic, of course. Because I am a craft hoarder, I am going to share the hair ties with YOU. Well, two of you.

Smile Brilliant Giveaway

A few weeks ago Heather asked me if I wanted to try out a Smile Brilliant Teeth Whitening System and do a giveaway. I am always on the hunt for a brighter smile, even going as far as trying out Pins on Pinterest.

I tried out the pin where you brush your teeth with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and was horrified that my only results were very irritated gums. Toof Whitening is expensive, which is why I will try anything free, whether it be found on pinterest or part of a giveaway.

Southwest Crock Pot Short Ribs

This week it hit me that the “lull” after the holidays was over.  My son is entering playoffs with his winter league football, and baseball will start shortly.  My daughter starts ice skating again this week, and Chris’s work schedule is back to full throttle.  What’s a busy mama to do?  Bust out the slow cooker, my friends.

I spend 5 minutes in the morning and the stress of my afternoon.trying to get dinner on the table is GONE.

Tarah has offered up some tasty selections for the crock pot, and I still need to try the Sesame Chicken recipe.  This is one of my faves.  I especially love it because it can be completely done in 4 hours.I use it on Sundays after church or when I get home with the kids after school, but have to run back out the door again to dance/baseball/skating lessons.  Dinner is ready when we walk back in the door and it’s not coming from a sack from (insert name here) fast food place.

The Ro-Tel offers a little zip that I like.  It’s comfort food with a twist! This recipe can be easily modified to suit your tastes, I’ve played around with the vegetable combos.  This tastes very similar to pot roast, but cooks quicker since the short ribs are smaller cuts.

Southwest Crock Pot Short Ribs

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Country Style Pork Ribs
  • 1 Onion (halved & sliced)
  • 4-6 large potatoes (cut into 1" chunks)
  • 1 bag baby carrots
  • 1 can Ro-Tel
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 pouch French Onion Soup Mix
  • 1-2 c water
  • **Optional Worcestershire Sauce (I like 1-2 TBSP)

Instructions

  1. Spray the Crock Pot with non-stick spray to make clean up a breeze!
  2. Place the potatoes, carrots, and onion in the crock pot
  3. Season the Country Style Ribs with Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning (Or similar) to your liking
  4. Place over vegetables
  5. Pour 1 can of Ro-Tel; 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup; and French Onion Soup Packet into crock pot
  6. Add 1-2 c water (Cover potatoes, but meat does not need to be covered)
  7. Add a splash of Worcestershire Sauce (if desired) I use 1-2 TBSP.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.

We’re prepping you for Valentine’s Day. NO holiday should be left behind … even if it is a “Hallmark holiday”. I’ve actually put up the few Valentine’s decorations that I have. And sadly, it’s the Lots of hearts frame and LOVE garland that I’ve made this week and this wreath. How depressing.

As always, you should always have a wreath for your front door. I’m not normally a big fan of hearts, but for this wreath I did hearts. I happen to have this red/pink tie-dyesque yarn handy, and I always have wreath forms handy!

As a serious crafter, you should always keep extra supplies handy. I’m sure I have enough “extras” for at least 3 more people (Hush, Heather!) I happen to have some Valentine color options of felt to make these super cute flowers and throw some hearts on there. Its so simple!

Before I was offered these products to review, I had never purchased any Seventh Generation brand products. I have my brands I like to stick to, so why look at anything else, right? Well, I really did like most of this stuff and I will be purchasing it in the future – so pay attention! I received this awesome “Cold Care Kit” to review, so here goes!

These are the items that were sent to me to try out:

Seventh Generation Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner – I actually used this for more than just the bathroom. It also worked great on tile floors! While I am not in love with the scent (Lemongrass & Thyme), it is not bad – and I don’t expect antibacterial cleaners to smell great anyway! It does the job and it does it well.

Seventh Generation Disinfecting Wipes – These were/are great! The fragrance is the same (Lemongrass & Thyme), and it is pretty strong on these wipes. I actually used them to wipe down the walls in my living room while my husband hung the mantle I bought in Canton (pics to come). I can honestly tell you that these wipes worked better than the Clorox wipes I usually buy.

Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner: Free & Clear – Now this is what I’m talking about. When I am not sick (which is, sadly, not often – but we’ll get to that momentarily), I have a very keen sense of smell. This smelled great to me – not offensive, not even close – it just had a faint scent and it smelled CLEAN. I will most definitely be switching to this product instead of Windex. I love using vinegar to clean just about everything, but sometimes you just need a little more than what vinegar has to offer. This is it!

Seventh Generation 100% Recycled Facial Tissues – If you know me in real life, you know that (more often than not) I have the sniffles/sinus infection/cold. I don’t know what it is with me, but it’s just something I have to deal with! I go through a lot of tissues. A LOT. I will admit, I was a little scared of these at first because I thought, “Recycled. That means I will be blowing my nose with cardboard. Yay!” However, I was pleasantly surprised and they are actually pretty soft! I’ve gone through the small box and I’m about to start on the bigger box.

Seventh Generation Hand Wash – These were my favorite part of the collection by far. They both smell great, they both work great, and my hands don’t feel gross or sticky after I use it. You know how some soaps just leave a residue, even after you wash it off? These don’t! The scents are Mandarin and Lavender. I love love LOVE anything orange scented, so obviously the Mandarin is my favorite, but the Lavender is so calming – good to use before bed. The bottles are pretty big, I think they are going to last me a long time (yay)!

Seventh Generation’s website is very informative on every product they sell. Their Facebook page is hopping, along with Twitter and Pinterest! They’ve got lots and lots of fans (myself included!).

Shutterfly Christmas Cards – and a giveaway!

First of all, yes – I realize this is early. However, I also realize that some of you are picky like me and need to research, research, research before you pull the trigger on something as important as Christmas cards. Most of the photographers I know have already started/completed their Christmas card shoots! It’s crazy, but it’s true. Bear with me, it’s worth it.

One of my favorite things about Christmas is receiving all of the adorable Christmas cards from my friends – luckily, most of them send out photo cards so I can see their sweet kids. Those go right up on my fridge, and they may or may not stay up there for most of the year (partly because I’m lazy, but mostly because they’re cute)!

Not only does Shutterfly have great cards, they also have great photo books. Whitney makes them regularly for my nephew, Logan. I’m pretty sure he is up to 18 books now?!   It is very rare that any of us print out photos anymore, so photo books are a great way to share them. He loves sitting down and looking at them with us, and we love looking at them too. He gave me my very own book last Christmas, and it was my favorite gift!

Hey y’all!

How YOU doin’? (I love FRIENDS. Its okay to admit it.)

The first week of October I kicked major butt at the gym. We’re doing what’s called the YFL and every minute you workout is equal to a yard, plus they give you bonus yards to earn with questions to answers. Well that week, I scored 301 yards. Yes, yes I did. It was also the first time I’ve EVER gone to the gym 5 days in a row. Last week, sadly wasn’t as awesome. I’m still trying Zumba, using the elliptical and strength training. I’m also going to add that running back into the routine. I actually miss it.

I weighed in last night. It’s the same as last week, and the week before. I’m going to be re-evaluating my food, because that has to be the one MAJOR issue. There were cupcakes and candy involved in eating this last week. I had a child turn 3. I couldn’t NOT eat cupcakes … or that donut on his breakfast morning. ;)  Any healthy recipes you have, I’ll take! We eat only shrimp and chicken, sometimes pork and ground turkey.

I believe Brittaney and Christie are still in the midst of attending Boot Camp. I’m not envious … at all. I was given a trial month for a boot camp style workout once. I showed up to the park, looked at all the people who were there to workout. Seeing they were all tiny and built, I hopped back in my truck and went back home. I’m not ashamed to admit it.
